and now for something ... completely different

Last Friday, while I was writing about Bunny Bells, I didn't think I would be spending the evening at the ER. But I suppose most ER visits are unanticipated.

I actually have a "no bodily fluids" rule on my blog, so I will spare you details about what happened in the ER, my overnight stay, and operation the next day. The final diagnosis was an ovarian cyst that basically took care of itself. But it took 3 incisions in my belly for the doctors to figure out that it wasn't anything more harmful. They weren't incompentent - they had good reasons to believe it could have been worse, and we're just thankful it wasn't. The long and short of it is that I have been spending the last few days (and a few days more, I think) recovering from their prodding and prognostications.

When coming out of the sedation from surgery on Saturday, the first thing I remember was looking at the nurses and saying, "I think I need to renew my library books." And then I requested more morphine because everything hurt.

I'm glad you're okay. Thanks for the "no bodily fluids" rule. Harder to keep once you have kids, but I try. Hope you heal in time for Christmas!

Aw, so sorry to hear about the ER trip--ab surgery is just not a lot of fun... And thanks for telling me about your post-op comment--Dh is constantly bringing up all the dumb things I say as I'm getting gassed up before surgery and the weird things I say in recovery... No rest for the anesthetized, eh?

Oh no! :( I'm glad you're doing ok now though! That sounds awful. In her book, "My Point, and I do have One" Ellen Degeneres talks about having an incredibly painful ovarian cyst. She somehow made it sound funny, while at the same time describing how painful it was! I'd let you borrow it, but I'm afraid laughing would only hurt (haha).

Wow I hope everything is ok. ER's are scary no matter what the situation is. You are ok right???

Okay... I seriously am still laughing at you thinking about returning your library book after you came out of surgery... so classic... maybe because I can relate! I hope you are okay... glad it wasn't anything serious... I am pretty sure I've broken the bodily fluids rule several times

Good to know that library books are ever foremost on your mind! LOL! I have had a few ovarian cysts over my lifetime. THEY HURT and you think you are going to die. Luckily, once you know what it is, the pain isn't so bad. So if you have another hopefully it won't bother you so much. So sorry about the surgery though!!

So, yeah! I had one of those 10 days before we moved to New Zealand. It exploded (the doctors said "ruptured," but I felt the thing, and it was an explosion), and it was exceptionally painful. But I only needed a sonogram to figure out what mine was.

The best part was looking at the ultrasound screen with Eric and him saying, "Awww, look, honey. We have a cyst!" Everything else pretty much stunk.
