Favorite Serial?

I was at the library the other day and noticed a shelf of the complete Nancy Drew series, by Carolyn Keene. I loved these books in elementary school and couldn't help picking up "#5: The Secret of Shadow Ranch" for a quick read.

Other immensely satisfying series books from my childhood:

The Babysitter's Club - Ann M. Martin
The Saddle Club - Bonnie Bryant
Amelia Bedelia - Peggy Parish and Herman Parish
The Boxcar Children - Gertrude Chandler Warner
Ramona Quimby - Beverly Cleary
Goosebumps & Fear Street - R. L. Stine

What's on your list?

I know exactly which shelf you were looking at - I saw the same one the other day. I loved Nancy Drew growing up, but preferred the newer ones, not the old blue ones.

Other series I loved - Hardy Boys.

When I was growing up, my sisters and I were totally addicted to the Baby-sitters Club! We had most of the books, but eventually we had to give up. We just couldn't keep up with Ann M. Martin. I think there are over 70 regular books, then there are the super mysteries, and the vacation books and whatnot. She really cashed in on the series.

When I was in elementary school I loved Ramona. I still remember some of the funniest scenes from those books. Classic. My ten year old nephew thinks Amelia Bedelia is hilarious! :)

Makes me want to take out some of my old books and reread them!

My favorites included all the same as yours except for the Saddle Club. I would always get in trouble for sneaking a flashlight into my room at bedtime and reading half way through the night.

However, I have to add to the list the Little House on the Prairie Series. Love those, too.

Very cool that you guys read Nancy Drew, so did I about 30-40 years ago! I also remember some series about a nurse, don't remember the name, Nurse Whomever was a camp nurse and a ranch nurse and a..well you get it...

Great lists everyone. I'd add the following great elementary school lit.

Chronicles of Prydain - Lloyd Alexander
Encyclopedia Brown - Donald J. Sobol (Did anyone else have a crush on Sally?)
Choose Your Own Adventure - Issues 1 to 11 and 13 to 170.

Loved Encyclopedia Brown, tried to sneak around with Sweet Valley High, read every Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Nancy Drew/Hardy boys books, Anne of Green Gables and all things L.M. Montgomery were also favorites. I remember being totally bummed to learn that my library only allowed me to check out 40 books at a time. Yes, I was a book geek.

Not a seriel, but the best series ever is The Dark Tower, by Stephen King. Hands down. Everything you could ever want in a book, bursting with life and passion and truth.

Hey Erin! I just found your blog!! I love babysitter's club and nancy drew. I read pretty much the entire series. I also read everything by Avi, and when I was younger I loved Amelia Bedelia. I can't wait to read these again when I have kids someday (assuming I can convince them to like reading as much as I did)
