House: Phase 1

We've been trying to make our apartment a little more like a home and a little less like a dorm room. We searched Target, Kohls, Macy's, and overstock.com trying to find a slip cover for our couch that was a little less...bold...than the original fabric. Target was the winner, in Stretch Ribbed Blue Steel.

After finding the right cover, I poured through my supply of interior design books trying to figure out good color schemes and furniture arrangements for our new condo (14 days until the move!). It's a little embarrassing, but I actually hunted down the condo floor plan and made a model of the condo in PowerPoint with scaled furniture pieces to figure out furniture arrangements and colors.

So after all that, I went to Joann's fabrics and got our accent colors - let's hear it for dark blue and canary yellow - for pillows. Luckily I can sew somewhat straight lines, so the pillows turned out okay. Don't look too closely at one of the yellow ones, or you'll notice that one of the corners is skewed. Still working on those straight lines. One of my few memories of 6th grade includes my Home Ec teacher scolding me for pressing the peddle to hard on my sewing machine. I was making a pink pig pillow case.

Where's the condo? Will it have more space than the UM housing? Aren't you excited to move?

Great Job! It looks totally different. I think you should confer with your artistic siblings on the off white... I'm partial to yellow=white.

Nice work. You can also go with my method and just wait until mom comes to visit and have her do all your sewing projects. She's just so much faster. Although I did sew some things a few weeks ago and overcame my fear of breaking my sewing machine.

The condo's only a few miles from where we are now. We are SOOOO excited to move - AC and a dishwasher! All our problems will be solved. Who said money doesn't buy happiness?!

I cannot believe how good your couch cover looks! We had one and it never looked like that. I hope you guys are having a fun summer. Good luck on your move!

My pillows are nothing compared to yours Britta! The couch cover does work pretty well. In the picture where I'm sitting on it, it looks bad b/c it's not actually fitted on the couch. But when it's fitted on, it looks good. I have to re-tuck it a little 1x/week, but that's ok.
